Bitch: a new level of service

Almost every day I work with colleagues from all around the world but some nationalities seem to copy and paste their bitchiness. In many airlines it´s has become tendency to hire people from Eastern Europe and mine is not an exception.

Beside the normal cultural differences, as for example many of them are cold and distant, they really don´t know how to treat passengers as a Japanese or Malaysian crew does. They don´t want to be patience by any mean or any way. They pretend they are and then they make fuzz about the fact that our job has disgusting things that need to be done, as for example: cleaning up vomit from the floor or picking up blankets that are with shit.

Not very long time ago a male Russian crew was simply playing with the intercom while taking off making “internal phone calls” to other crew criticizing passengers while the airplane was lifting. I was so embarrassed by the situation and worst of all a very nice female passenger in her 60´s told me while I was in the back gallery doing the duty inventory: “I speak Russian as I was born there and it was awful what the crew (that was seated in front of me) was telling about other passengers”. Many times I had to deal with colleagues that carry a dreadful bag of guilt and they transmit that to others beyond the fact that they might be naturally cold and distant.

Other fact is that I see crew who smile to everyone and they are truly bad people to work with. I´m not going to go to the part about the fact that they spread rumors and talk shit about everyone who is around them, but for example they may block bathrooms as they refuse to clean them. Or they spit onto passenger drinks.

Also, whatever you might heard about how slut some crew may be, is totally and entirely true. But that is another subject. So it´s our fault that people tend to believe that all crew are promiscuous and sluts.

Okay yes, there are extremely rood and non caring customers (passengers) and they are the majority. But crew? They are not that far away. The weirdest thing is that these major airlines (including mine) have these criteria about requirement: they don´t want leaders, they just want followers and because of this very phew get the job. After getting it and moving into the industry you can see the true bitch inside of them.

Who didn’t have a bad day? But do you have the need to spit on the passenger drink? The worst part is that Human Resources usually defend this kind of crew or just put a notice on them. And the ironic part is that they still hire people with the same exact profile as the ones that are being warned.

The last thing: imagine a woman that flies between 95 and 110 hours per month, breath fake oxygen, moving time zones in a same week and works at 10.000 ft. up in the sky. There is a whole new level of service up in the sky.

(I don´t own the above picture)
